The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a New Divinity, Declaring it Their Largest RPG to Date

The anticipation about this year's gaming ceremony was significant, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is creating a fresh Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer that included memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal descent into chaos.

A Different Direction

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian warned that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This choice of words hints that the team could be building a faster-paced experience as opposed to another tactical title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it kicked off the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—qualities that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities you can achieve with a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.

The series is also notoriously flexible, letting players to improvise both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be solved in diverse methods, sometimes in surprising fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you recalled something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

The Journey Continues

It is these creative systems that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, players can get ready for another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
